A Community Member Gives Back
On a warm September morning, OAR executive director Derwin Overton and intern Paul Gould entered the head office of Navy Federal Credit Union in Vienna, Virginia. OAR had been invited to speak and receive a very special gift from the employees of Navy Federal. The staff wanted to give back to a local organization and they chose OAR! Navy Federal purchased supplies to make hundreds of snack packs and hygiene kits. The turnout was incredible. About 100 employees together to hear about our mission and the services we offer. They then went on to put together the kits for our clients, even going so far as to write little notes of encouragement for our clients to accompany the kits. Though our event only took a few hours, we hope seeing all the good a community can do when it comes together will last a lifetime.
OAR is only one tile in the mosaic that is our community, and everyone has to play their role so that the mural is vibrant and complete. We were honored that the Navy Federal Credit Union staff chose OAR clients with whom to share their generosity. Those kits will go far and help many!
